Investigation of accuracy and reliabilities of emergency medical expert students' interpreting of abdominal computed tomographs of emergency service patients presenting with trauma

Our study aims to determine the accuracy and reliability of emergency medicine assistants in the interpretation of images of trauma patients, who underwent abdominal computer tomography (CT) in the emergency department. 200 patients were included in our study who underwent abdominal computer tomography considering its pathology. Of the 200 included in the study, 33% were women and 67% were men. The median age of the patients with trauma was 40 (min:19 max:92). In the study, it was requested to watch the CT images of the emergency medicine residents who examined the patient. Emergency medicine residents and radiology specialist reports were compared. 200 CT's were examined in the study that liver laceration, liver hematoma, splenic laceration, splenic hematoma, vascular injury, bone fragments fractures, free intraabdominal fluid and gas were evaluated. As a result of of the study, it was observed that emergency medicine residents performed well in interpreting CT of patients with trauma, with a 90.5% agreement rate (p = 0.648). The high rate of compliance can be explained by the fact that emergency medical assistants are usually the first doctors to meet and treat trauma patients.
