Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out with 24 patients who were followed up at Formed Healthcare Clinic in order to examine the effect of brace usage on respiratory functions in individuals with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and to reveal the effect of Schroth exercises on the respiratory functions. Sample; ıt was divided as Brace group and Brace&Exercise group. All data of the cases were recorded with the form prepared by the physiotherapist according the protocols described in the literature. Respiratory parameters data were obtained with the spirometer in two stages, before the treatment and at the eight week of the brace-exercise treatment. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Windows Version 22.0 was used for statistical analysis. After treatment, there was an increase in the both FEV1 parameter in the Brace&Exercise and the FVC parameters after the treatment in the analysis of all cases. In the analysis of the cases, a positive correlation was found between Lumbar Cobb angle and BMI of participations, and also a strong negative correlation between post-treatment brace using time – FVC and negative correlation between post-treatment brace using time and FEV1 values was found. (p <0.05). According to current data, ıt was determined that Schroth exercises had a positive contribution on FEV1 and the use of short-term asymmetric brace did not adversely affect respiratory parameters in patients with AIS. Keywords: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, brace, respiratory function
