Abstract (EN)
Nicotine and internet addiction pose a significant risk for adolescents in Turkey, and it is striking that research on these issues is insufficient and limited. This increasingly young population in our country has started to arise pathological problems associated with the spread of the internet. Excessive internet / computer use, which negatively affects the psychological and physical development and social relations of students and reduces their academic achievement, especially as it is common in the school age, negatively affects both the academic and personal development of the individual and makes the individual dependent. Nicotine use, which is another risk factor of adolescence, has dropped to 7-12 years of age. This research aimed to investigate the nicotine and internet addiction levels of adolescents between the ages of 12-18, to investigate their prevalence and to examine their relationship with psychological symptoms. The relational ( associational ) research method was used in this research. The sample of the research was conducted on 300 individuals between the ages of 12-18 with nicotine and internet use. Since it is in the pandemic process, the data were collected and applied as a survey on the internet. Parental consent form, informed consent form, sociodemographic information form, SCL-90-R (Psychological Symptom Screening) Test, Young Internet Addiction Form (Short Form), Fagerström Nicotine Addiction Test were used as data collection tools in the research. The Pearson correlation was used in the study to determine the relationship between a series of analysis. The T test and the One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to determine the significance or insignificance of the difference between the scales. Internet addiction scale, nicotine addiction test, SCL-90-R scale with gender, education status, mother and father's status, number of siblings, monthly earning of the family, duration of smoking initiation, reason of smoking, weekly internet use and smart phone significant results were obtained among the variables of reason for use. Between SCL-90-R and sub-dimensions with Internet Addiction Scale and Nicotine Addiction Test was analyzed that there is a meaningful relationship.
