Abstract (EN)

Aim; It is the examination of the changes in the enamel surface topography after stripping with ARS, Disk, ortho-strips and unidirectional sandpaper applied in vivo in the premolar teeth to be extracted orthodontically in cases with four or two premolar extraction indications, by SEM and optical profilometry after tooth extraction. Material and Method; For this purpose, in-vivo stripping was performed with 4 different materials on the mesial surfaces of the premolar teeth to be extracted from at least 20 patients who applied to Dicle University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics for treatment. Extraction was performed after the treated teeth were kept in the mouth for at least 1 month. Extracted teeth were kept in 2.5% glutaraldehyde solution until analysis. Before the SEM and Optical profilometer examinations, the teeth were washed abundantly with water and no other procedure was applied. Following the extraction process, the samples were evaluated qualitatively by SEM analysis and quantitatively by optical profilometry, what kind of changes the enamel surface underwent after stripping, and in which application the wear and material loss was more, were compared with the natural tooth surface. Relationships between categorical variables were tested with the chi-square test. SPSS 22.0 Windows version package program was used in the analysis. P<0.05 was considered significant. The conformity of the numerical variables to the normal distribution was tested with the Shaphiro Wilk test. ANOVA and LSD tests were used to compare normally distributed numerical variables in 5 groups. SPSS 22.0 Windows version package program was used in the analysis. P<0.05 was considered significant. Conclusion; The surface roughness values of the tooth groups with ARS and Ortho-strips were quite similar to the natural tooth surface, but it was rougher, but the surface roughness values of the tooth groups with manual sandpaper and disc were lower than the natural tooth surface.
