The relation between the 2nd level elemantary school students? attidues towars science and technology lesson, science experiments and the study behaviors of science and technology course

Science and Technology course is one of the basic courses which provides scientific thinking of students, increase their interest in the environment and develop creativity of them. 2nd level elementary school students? attitudes towards science and Technology Courses will affect their attitudes towards Physics, Chemistry and Biology classes in upper-level.In this study, it is investigated whether there is a statically significant difference among the 2nd level elementary school students? attitudes towards science and Technology Lessons, Science Experiments and the study behaviors of science and Technology Lessons, according to the variables in gender, grade level, perceived socioeconomic level, mother?s educational level, father?s educational level, study environment at home, number of siblings, family attitudes of bringing-up children, school satisfaction and level of interest in scientific research.The universe of the study is the 2nd level elementary school students having education in MEB schools in the town of Tuzla, In 2011-2012 academic year. The sample of research is, 407 students having education in these schools, selected from 8 elementary schools by random method.During the research the Likert Scale, consisting of 13 attitudes towards to science and Technology Lesson and 8 attitudes towards to Science Experiments, developed by Kaya and Böyük (2011) , and also ?the study behaviors rating scale? of Batlaş?s (1996), consisting of 73 questions and 7 sub categories, were used. In addition, the desired demographic characteristics of students were identified with the personal information form. For data analysis, using SPSS 15.0 software, the frequencies and percentages of demographic characteristics were analyzed, the arithmetic means and Standard deviations of the scores obtained from the scales were calculated, in difference tests the t test and analysis of variance(one-way ANOVA), Kruskal-Wallis H tests were performed. For relational analysis, Pearson Correlation analysis was performed.It was determined that the students? attitudes towards science and Technology Lessons, have a significant difference according to the variables in the study environment at home, father?s educational level, interest in scientific research, number of siblings, socioeconomic level, class level and mother?s educational level. It was determined that the students? attitudes towards science Experiments show a significant difference according to the variables in interest in scientific research and class level. It was determined that their study behaviors show a significant difference according to the variables in gender, school satisfaction, study environment, class level, interest in scientific research and family methods of bringing-up children. It was seen that there is a significant relationship between their attitude towards Science and Technology Course, Science Experiments and their study behaviors.The keywords used: Science and Technology Lesson, Science Experiment, Attitude, Study Behavior
