The role of social skill and life satisfaction in predicting bullying among middle school students

In this study, it is intented to determine what percentage students? tending to be bully and victim is predicted by the social skills, and the level of life satisfaction; as well as bullies, victims, bullies/victims and not involved in bullying of students to gender, social skills, life satisfaction mean scores significantly different according to the review aimed to become aware.The participants of this study included 440 girls and 495 boys, a total of 935 students in Grades 6-8 from six public high schools in Adana central province. Their ages ranged from 13 to 15 years (M=13.63, SD=.68). In the study, the `Bullying Scale? to determine students? bullying levels, `Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngstres? to learn about students? social skills, and `The Multidimentional Students? Life Satisfaction Scale? to determine the students? life satisfaction levels have been used.In the result of the study, it is pointed out that there is significant difference between male and female students according to the sex difference in being in the victim, bully , bully-victim and those who are not involved in bullying groups. Female students are less involved in active bullying groups (bully, victim, bully-victim) than male students are; female students are mostly in those who are not involved in bullying group.In the study, it is observed whether there is a meaningful difference between the students those who are involved and those who are not involved in bullying according to their social skill level. In the result of the Mann Whitney U Test, it is pointed out that there is significant difference between the students who are involved in bullying and those who are not involved in bullying among their negative social behaviours, positive social behaviours and the total scores of social skills. It is observed that the students who are involved in bullying have more negative social behaviours than those who are not involved; those who are not involved in bullying have more positive social behaviours and social skills total score.In the study, it has been observed that there is meaningful difference in life satisfaction point of students those who are involved and who are not involved in bullying.It has been determined that the students?,who aren?t involved in bullying, total points of ?friend, school, family, environment, self and life satisfaction?, the dimensions of Multidimensional Satisfaction Students? Life Scale, are higher than those who are involved in bullying .According to the total varience contribution of the results of stepwise regression analyses carried out to determine the variables that predict to be bully in Primary School students, it has been found out that at negative social behaviors, the satisfaction perceived from environment and school are meaningful predictors of being bully. It has been determined that the total variables explain 44.5 % of the total variances.According to the total varience contribution of the results of stepwise regression analyses carried out to determine the variables that predict to be victim, in order, satisfaction perceived from friendships, negative social behavior, life satisfaction perceived from the environment and school are meaningful predictors of being victim. It has been determined that all of these variables explain 23.3 % of the total variances. The findings summarized above have been discussed in the light of the researches of the literatute.
