Abstract (EN)

Obese women have lower pregnancy rates than normal-weight women undergoing assisted reproductive treatment (ART). This study aimed to increase the fertility of obese individuals by weight loss with a Mediterranean Diet (MED). The participants were divided into two groups: a study group that underwent a 12-week weight loss MED before starting an In Vitro Fertilization / Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (IVF/ICSI) cycle, and a control group that started with no previous interventions. Thirty patients were enrolled in this study. All analyses were performed using R (version 4.1.2) and R Studio (version 1.4.1106) software. T-test analyses revealed that experimental and control groups were not significantly differed in their initial weight (Mdifference = 0.51, t (28) = 0.12, p = .906), age (Mdifference = 0.20, t (28) = 0.14, p = .892) and their score of MEDAS (Mdifference = 0.33, t (28) = 0.70, p = .492). Individuals who lost 1 kilogram were 0.62 times more likely to get pregnant than individuals who did not lose any weight. Two patients in the study group were spontaneously pregnant. Finally, embryo quality did not significantly predict pregnancy success (p = .998). As a result of the study, there is a need for more extensive studies due to the limited number of people.
