The assessment of the relationship between the levels of subjective well-being and the the levels of social skills of the high school students

The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between the levels of subjective well-being and the levels of social skill of the high school students in Ankara; according to their various sociodemographic variables.The study is desciriptive. The sample of the study was students (222 girls, 223 boys,445 total) attending to 6 public high schools in the ninth, tenth and eleventh grades during the first semestr of 2009-2010 in Çankaya region. The radomly chosen sample was used in the study.The data was collected by ?Subjective Well- Being Scale (High School Version)? which was used to determine levels of subjective well- being, Social Skills Inventory which was created by Riggio (1986) and later translated and adapted to turkish by Yüksel (1998) and a questionnaire which was developed by the researcher to determine the sociodemographic features of the sample.The analysis revealed that, there is a positive and significant correlation between subjective well-being and social skill levels. There is a significant difference between overall social skill levels, according to gender. It is found that significant differencebetween global social skill, subjective well-being levels and the variables; academic achivement, participated activities and the family income. There is significant difference between subjective well-being and parental attitudes.
