Abstract (EN)
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the opportunistic pathogens that causes various infections, especially in people hospitalized in intensive care units and whose immune system is suppressed. In this study, it was aimed to investigate multidrug resistance and metallo beta-lactamase (MBL) activity in nosocomial Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates in Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Training and Research Hospital. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the leading causes of nosocomial infections, and treatment options are gradually decreasing as the frequency of antimicrobial resistance increases. Determination of multi-drug resistance and metallo beta-lactamase activity in P. aeruginosa isolates is important in terms of choosing antimicrobials to be used in treatment and preventing future resistance development. 178 P. aeruginosa isolates from various units were included in the study. Disc diffusion method was used in line with the recommendations of 2020-The Eureopan Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) to detect multidrug resistance of isolates. Double disc synergy test, combined disc diffusion test and modified Hodge test were used for determination of metallo beta-lactamase activity in carbapenem resistant isolates. As a result of the study, multi-drug resistance was found to be 100% according to 2020-EUCAST criteria. Ceftazidime-avibactam (96.1%), amikacin (90.4%), and ceftolozane-tazobactam (86.5%) were found to be the most effective antibiotics for the isolates. MBL positivity was found to be 36.4% with the combined disc diffusion test, 32.7% with the double disc synergy test and 30.9% with the modified Hodge test.
