Orientalist Jacqueline Chabbi's Method of Understanding the Qur'an

This study analyzes the life, work, thought structures and ways of understanding the Quran of the French orientalist Jacqueline Chabbi. The aim of this study is to contribute to the proper understanding of the Quran by revealing Chabbi's approaches to the profound and universal message of the Qur'an thanks to her method of understanding it. In order to understand better the method of Chabbi, it is needed to evoke orientalism as a whole and French orientalism particularly, as well as the orientalists who influenced Chabbi. In our study, we used Chabbi's writings, lecture videos, data from anthropology, philology and historical sciences offered by the social sciences, al-fiqh procedure, al tafsir, the first studies of tafsir and its lexicography. It has been determined that Chabbi has a historicist approach to the Qur'an by combining the anthropology and philology sciences.
