Abstract (EN)

Aim: We aimed to examine the expression level of CITED-1 protein in placenta accreta immunohistochemically. Materialand Method: The placentas of 20 female patients diagnosed with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) and 20 healthy female patients were included in the study, and 2 groups as control and patient were formed. Sections of 4-6 μm thickness were taken from the placentas, and their expression in the tissues were determined by applying CITED-1 immunostaining as well as Hematoxylin-Eosin (H-E) staining. Results: In the H-E stained preparations of the control groups, the villus sections were generally normal, there was no excessive trophoblastic invasion, and the syncytial bridges were normal. In the PAS groups, there was thickening in the syncytial regions, especially the syncytial nodes and bridges began to increase. In the control groups, CITED-1 immunostaining were observed in both nuclei and cytoplasms in decidual areas with syncytial bridges and nodes. In the CITED-1 immunostaining of PAS groups; CITED-1 reaction was positive in maternal region root villi, especially in decidual cells, syncytial nodes and bridges. Conclusion: It was concluded that inflammation process, which is one of the main findings of PAS can be induced by CITED-1 signaling, and that CITED-1 may be an important marker of trophoblast activity and syncytial formation.
