Evaluation of the quality of life in stoma patients and their educational needs

This study is aimed to evaluate the life quality of the patients who are diagnosed with colon rectum cancer and has open stoma.This study is made on a data base of 43 patients who received ambulatory and in-patient chemotherapy treatments center and a cancer unit of a private hospital in Istanbul, in between September 2015 and December 2015. Patient information sheet and quality of life scale are used ort he data collection.In the study, the patients' personal characteristics, characteristics of the disease, and life qualities are examined. Patients who joined to our study are mostly in 40-49 age range and most of them are high school graduate or post graduate people. From the point of the disease, they are mostly diagnosed with colon canser and received chemotheraphy treatment. In accordance with the outcome of the study, it is seen that there is an increase in social anxiety and a decrease in psychological well-being scores of the patients. It is seen that, people who are living with the patients could cause a change in their physical well-being. It is understood that support from the nurses, family and other sources are necessary in solving the social anxiety problems of the patients.The study gives suggestions to specialist nurses concerning the implementation of the evidence-based nursing practices in tracking,and supporting the processes from the beginning.
