Louise Erdrich ve Toni Morrison eserlerinde postfeminist unsurler
Postfeminism as a term has emerged in a cultural, academic, and political context in the late twentieth century. Notwithstanding, many critics and scholars have claimed and appropriated the term for a variety of definitions, indeed, the term has no one single definition. The critical study of popular and culture and literature is necessary in order to understand how popular literary works to establish post-feminist ideologies of womanhood. Since there is no ultimate definition of postfeminism it is important to analyze post-feminist contexts in literature and try to define the characteristics and typology of post-feminist fiction. Unlike feminism which hundreds of books were written and studies are done, it is a bit hard to find recourses for the current study. In the literary context some studies have been done in post-feminist fiction, however, we can notice that these studies are mostly defined post-feminist literature as chick lit – nonserious, popular culture - literature. The significance of this study is that, in this thesis, I will try to analyze the works of authors accepted in academic level. The authors I chose are highly recognized and glorified in the literary and academic level. The post-feminist elements in the works of two prominent writers of America – Louise Erdrich and Toni Morrison - and explore whether and how postfeminism represented in their works. These writers differ from many of their counterparts as they depict alternative history far away from dominant perceived history allowing the reader to see the history through nonwestern eyes. They also challenge feminist ideology in a number of ways. I will analyze the works according to three themes – post-feminist representation of femininity, post-feminist representation of masculinity, and post-feminist representation of maternity. Keywords: Postfeminism, feminism, femininity, masculinity, popular culture, maternity
The enlightenment of Afro-American society
Today's African American society's true evaluation depends on the observation of historic background of the African American society's historical background. As history plays a critical role in the true understanding of today's art and literature, a historical and artistic background study is critical for the understanding of the artistic movements and works. This thesis aims chronologically to research the history and art of the African American nation in the framework of their slavery experience. The methodology adopted in the thesis depends on a chronological order, which is expected to contribute to understanding of the events and movements. From the first contact of the slave ship with the white soil to the 'Civil Rights Movement', according to the effects of the figures and events on the consequences, the investigation has objectively presented and analyzed studying on each historical event and figure. After presenting the historical background of the events, the prominent figures, leaders, and minds of the era, I aimed to question and challenge their effects on the African American path of freedom. Majority of the apparently favoring events and figures proved to have disrupted the progress of the race's freedom. Harlem Renaissance, which is the cultural, artistic and to some extent the political revival of the black race, is, dedicated a wide coverage in the thesis. The giants of Harlem are highlighted, their contribution to the Renaissance, and the path they opened for the next generation leaders have accordingly put forth. As the principle of the methodology adopted in the thesis, the Renaissance's benefits, and harms are explored. The fact that movements' intellectuals ignored Jazz as an original product of African American race is challenged.
Discrimination in the postcolonial period through theanalysis of Nervous Conditions, and the Lonely Londoners
Through depicting the suffering and oppression of man's experiences in colonial backgrounds, postcolonial writers portray the effects of colonial regimes in the dominated and marginalized societies. Some of the writers from postcolonized nations choose to rewrite an integral part of their history, which has been missed. Indeed, Tsitsi Dangarembga and Samuel Selvon are two of the prominent postcolonial writers who demonstrate the successive issues of racism and colonialism. The life of the colonized characters is riddled with subjugation and discrimination; such oppressions play a crucial role in distorting the identity of the Africans during the colonial period. The novelists seek to narrate that racial tension is an influential factor in snatching away the existence of the colonized people and loosening the national integrity of the fellowmen. Colonial Dominations sow the seed of racism because racial discrimination connotes the distinction between superior and inferior, high and low. This thesis targets to discourse the colonial and racial discrimination in The Lonely Londoners by Samuel Selvon and Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga. The novels depict racial discrimination practiced by the colonizers and gender discrimination as significant obstacles for the colonized women Then, language as a critical tool is used by the colonizers in transforming the identity and cultural values of the natives. The research also attempts to explain how the colonizers treat the colonized as the other. The binary opposition is not only between the superior and inferior; but it is inhabited in the human psyche as we see the difference between self and the other.

The exploration of America by Europeans is the start of changes in the Indigenous Americans' life. It lasted hundreds of years and comprised of endeavors by various individuals and campaigns from different outside nations to outline the mainland. Natüralizm'in Jack London'ın eserleri üzerindeki etkisi
The portrayal of women and nature in the literature since 2700 B.C to present
Throughout history, literature with a great contribution to society has dealt with in a significant approach on every problems of society. The authors have interplayed with social problems in their literary works to be interpreted by the public. This shows us that literature is the reflection of the community, traditions, and culture. The constructive criticism of literature has explicated the valuable issues and changed the concept of old stable visions on the subject. Feminist theories and feminist movements consist of a great deal part of literature. Naturally, the critical component in lots of literary works is also women. Women have been described in different positions, with different aspects; for instance, they have been presented as a goddess in epics, myths, and old literature. But almost in every society, women have been abused in society because of the traditions that tend to patriarchy domination. However, in recent decades, dealing with women issues, literary works have held to support women to release from society's restrictions. In all works of literature, feminism, as literary theory and critical movement, has caused fluctuations on different levels in everywhere and every time. This paper aims to examine the women in the context of literature from 2700 B.C to the present by discussing several literary works and historical contents regarding feminism sort. The other aim of this research is to determine the successes and failures of feminism in societies, which has been ruled by the patriarchy system. Poetry analysis within the scope of ecopoetry: The voice of nature in ecopoetry
Humankind has been in contact with nature since the beginning of his existence. Being vulnerable in the early stages of this relationship, humankind lived according to the rules of nature and in harmony with it. He attributed meanings to the natural phenomenon occurred around him for he had limited knowledge of what was happening. Nature was symbolizing an incredible power that was providing and giving him not only shelter but food as well. However, man increased his knowledge about nature each passing day, which led him to see himself as superior to nature and began exploiting nature as he wished. This increase led him to see himself as superior to nature and he began exploiting nature as he wished. The thought that man considered himself superior to nature formed the basis of ecological problems and it was the beginning of irreversible consequences of human destruction of nature for his own benefit, especially with the age of enlightenment's human-centered ideas and the subsequent industrial revolution. When humankind has realized that the exploitation of nature ultimately harms him, he has started to look for ways to compensate for the harm that he has done to nature. Literature has put forward the relation of humans with the environment in written works, and many writers have written numerous works in order to raise the environmental awareness of humans. As a result of this conscious raising, ecocritical theory and one of its sub-disciplines ecopoetry began to flourish all over the world. The purpose of this study is to study the emergence, origin, development, and status of ecopoetry a subset of ecocriticism. Furthermore, the aim of this study is to reveal a comprehensive review of ecocriticism. In the final chapter, I will try to analyze poems of various ecopoets through an ecopoetic perspective. Although ecocriticism has started to ensure its place in the literature of our country, as in the literature of many other countries, the fact that ecopoetry remains in the background and does not receive enough attention in the literary world is the main reason that led me to write this thesis about ecopoetry.
Eccentric characters as social commentary: A comparative analysis of Ignatius J. Reilly and Kilgore Trout
John Kennedy Toole and Kurt Vonnegut Jr. are among the prominent American authors who have secured a lasting place in the annals of literary history through their masterful use of satire and dark humor to critique social issues. In the works examined in this thesis, both authors position eccentric, anti-protagonist figures at the center of their narratives. Through these protagonists, they critique capitalism, consumerism, the degradation of social structures, and the structural inequalities faced by Black individuals, topics that will be explored in detail in subsequent sections, along with each author's distinctive techniques of satire. This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of A Confederacy of Dunces (1963) and Breakfast of Champions (1973), within their historical and sociopolitical contexts, highlighting how the periods in which of these novels were written are reflected in the authors' works through a theoretical framework. Additionally, this study will investigate the relationship between the authors and their protagonists as well as an analytical comparison between these two authors and the characters, questioning whether these characters represent literary alter egos or merely serve as fictional characters created to satire societal problems in an unserious, ironic manner.
Fakir Baykurt'un Yılanların Öcü ve John Osborne'un Look Back ın Anger eserlerinde öfke
Dönemin İngiliz oyun yazarı John Osborne ülke içinde yaşanan bu karamsar havayı ve özellikle işçi sınıfının yaşadığı ekonomik problemleri Look Back in Anger adlı eserinde ele almıştır. Her iki yazar farklı edebi türlerde de olsa ülkelerinin sorunlarına duyarsız kalmamışlar ve dönemlerinin politik, sosyal, ekonomik ve psikolojik sorunlarını eserlerinde yansıtmışlardır. Bu çalışmada İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrası İngiliz toplumunu yansıtan İngiliz oyun yazarı John Osborne'un Look Back in Anger adlı tiyatro eseri ile yine aynı dönemin Türk toplumunu yansıtan Fakir Baykurt'un Yılanların Öcü adlı romanı Marksist bakış açısıyla öfke teması çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. İki farklı edebi türde, iki farklı coğrafyada ortak amaç ve duygu çerçevesinde bu iki yazarın eser vermesi tezimin konusunun oluşturulmasında etken olmuştur.
Sylvıa Plath'in Sırça Fanus'u ile Tezer Özlü'nün Çocukluğun Soğuk Geceleri eserlerinin yabancılaşma teması bağlamında karşılaştırılması
The reflection of trauma and identity in Alice Walker's works
The literary works of Afro-American writers reflect the miseries of their community. Alice Walker, as a black writer, is preoccupied with demonstrating the ongoing predicaments of her community. In The Third Life of Grange Copeland and The Color Purple, Alice Walker articulates the agony of two traumatized black families in the south of the United States. The characters go through a plethora of abuses and oppressions. The writer reveals how racial oppression and violence puncture the lives of the characters and distort their identities. In the novels, the male characters are depicted as victims and victimizers. They are victims of racial oppression of the white hegemony and victimizers of their women and children. Unable to cope with their oppression, the characters take their rage and frustration on their families. Thus, women and children become victims of black men's powerlessness and anguish. Walker outlines race and gender as two driving forces behind these repressions. She exposes how an individual's race and gender can act as a catalyst for experiencing a diverse range of traumas. Besides, she displays how trauma affects the psyche and identity formation of the characters. This thesis seeks to explore the reflection of trauma and identity in Alice Walker's afore-mentioned novels. It endeavors to reveal the source of the trauma in each novel and its aftermath on the characters' psyche and identity. Moreover, it elucidates the characters' healing process and their metamorphosis journey towards self-actualization.
A comparative study of migrant muslim identity in London: Brick Lane by Monica Ali and White Teeth by Zadie Smith
ABSTRACT This thesis is an attempt to study migrant Muslim identities in London: Monica Ali's Brick Lane and Zadie Smith's White Teeth through the lens of Homi K. Bhabha's concepts of 'mimicry', and 'hybridity'. Both novels as a postcolonial literature exhibit cultural hybridity and mimicry, which represents the confused identity of first and second-generation migrant Muslim identities from British earlier colonies. Both novels discussed in this thesis are set in a different borough of London and the characters are migrant Muslims of South Asian diaspora. This study consists of four parts and the first part begins with the background to the authors, a brief explanation of several definitions of key terms and an introduction of theoretical terms, which are essential for analyses of migrant Muslim identities in London. Overall, all of the theory that is discussed in the second chapter is applied to both novels by Monica Ali and Zadie Smith. In the third chapter, it also focuses on multicultural Britain and immigration. It explores the differences between the generations of immigrant identity where they come from. The thesis also analyses how immigrants in both novels define their identity and interact with British identity and the dominant culture surrounding in a metropolitan city whether it changes or empowering their identity. Finally, the thesis deals the relevance of Homi K. Bhabha's perception to comprehend how the Muslim immigrants try to mimic and adopt the dominant British culture with a view to achieving social acknowledgment, but treated as others and inferiors in the society. This thesis will explore issues of migrant Muslim identity through the lenses of mimicry and hybridity that covers the cultural identity, conflict of identity between 'self' and 'other', 'British'-'Bangladeshi', clash of cultures, sense of alienation and ultimate disillusionment of the major characters prevail throughout both novels in the light of Postcolonial critical approaches.
