Investigation of the relationship between type d personality and job satisfaction among academicians

This study aims to investigate the relation between type D personality and job satisfaction of the academicians working on the Sütlüce Campus of Haliç University. According to the sample calculation covering a certain population, 243 full-time academicians (academic members, instructors, research assistants) on the Sütlüce Campus of Haliç University were included in the study. The study sample consists of 115 academicians on the Sütlüce Campus of Haliç University. Along with the socio-demographic data form; the type D personality scale, the Minesota Job Satisfaction Scale and Beck Depression Scale were also applied for each participant of the study. The prevalence of type D personality was firstly calculated as number and percentage in the statistical analysis. Furthermore, the participants were divided into two groups based on whether they had type D personality structure or not; afterwards, it was inquired if there was any difference between the depression and job satisfaction scales of two groups. The relation between the type D personality scores (social inhibition and negative affect) and job satisfaction was examined with correlation analysis. As a result of the findings, it has been statistically accepted that there are significant relations between the depression and job satisfaction scales among the academicians, who were divided into two groups based on their possessions of type D personality structure. The prevalence of type D personality has been found approximately as 29.4 % in the study. As job satisfaction decreased in academicians, D type personality structure increased and job satisfaction increased, D type personality structure decreased.
