Abstract (EN)
Acne vulgaris is inflammation that occurs in the structure of hair follicles and sebaceous glands with a high probability of recurrence and can remain for a long time. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the changes in the symptoms and quality of life of individuals aged 18 years and older with acne vulgaris complaints, at different education levels, with the current dietary approach, Gluten-free-casein-free diet. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of gluten-free-casein-free diet on acne formation and acne severity management in patients with acne vulgaris. The research was conducted online between January 1st and May 1st, 2023 on male and female individuals across Turkey. In the study, first of all, the General Characteristics of Individuals Questionnaire was applied to all participants and age, gender, educational status, drug use, smoking/alcohol use were questioned. Then, the Acne Quality of Life Scale was applied to the participants at the beginning of the study and after 3 weeks of follow-up. In order to learn the Frequency of Consumption of Foods with Gluten and Casein, a Gluten and Casein Food Consumption Frequency Questionnaire, which includes foods containing gluten and casein, and individuals were asked to evaluate their current acne status with their own assumptions without expert opinion. Three weeks after the first interview, the individuals were contacted again and the determined scales were applied to the participants again after the nutrition intervention. According to the results determined, no significant relationship was found on the severity of acne vulgaris in individuals who only fed gluten-free, but a significant relationship was found on quality of life. While a significant decrease was observed in the consumption of foods to be restricted before and after the diet, it was observed that diet was another important factor in the formation of acne vulgaris. In addition to Gluten and Casein; It has been reported that the addition of various probiotic strains, omega3 rich and low glycemic index nutrition have positive effects on acne formation. As a result of the study, it was concluded that low glycemic index foods and casein-free diet can reduce the severity of acne vulgaris.
