Urban transformation projects of municipalities an analysis for İzmir metropolis

Because of different reasons, urban areas retrogress as well as emerge social, economic, physical and environmental problems over times. To regain urban areas and remove these problems, urban transformation is an important planning instrument. On the other hand experienced the process of globalisation made urban space indispensible for the capital. Expected to solve urban problems, urban transformation projects due to created urban rent are in the interest of the capital. However in practice planning approach has evolved towards to project-based approach. Therefore transformation which is on the slippery floor should be manage properly.In our country, urban transformation projects which generally treat squatter areas and historical city centers have been applied by municipalities prevalently for last ten years. Unfortunately due to problems caused by the projects phenomenon of urban transformation is argued and criticized about planning, management and its other facts. Contrary to expected solution the process of urban transformation deepens the problems. In this context this thesis tries to make an analysis for Izmir Metropolis.
