Çivril (vertical dimension of the history study)

Çivril, the subject of this study, has been chosen as a settlement throughout the history due to its wide and fertile plain. On the evidence from the excavations in the neighbourhood, respectively, the sovereignty of Arzava Kingdom which was allied to Hittite Empire, Pyrgians, Lydians, Selevki Kingdom, Pergamo Kingdom, Roman Empire and Byzantines (till 1119) has been seen in its history dating back to 3000 B.C. As of 1119, Çivril was captured by Seljuks. The Myriokephalon War which is one of the most important wars in history, brought about on this land. The county Çivril, within the borders of the city Denizli in Aegean Region and 95 km far from Denizli, is also the largest county of Denizli in terms of surface area. Çivril has rich and productive soil in point of landform. Çivril was a village in Şeyhlü in Kütahya province in 1831. While Çivril was a village in Işıklı sub-district in Sandıklı County in 1880s, it became a sub-district in 1892. Çivril which became a district in Afyon in 190-11, became a county in Denizli in Turkey in 1925. In this study about Çivril, we will shed light on he details of agriculture and stockbreeding which have formed the basis of economy and have been seen in Anatolia for ages; charitable institution culture which revives the religious life ; and Çivril's population. In these researches, Most of Çivril's people had been engaged in farming and stockbreeding. People also served for feoff and zawiyah alongside their liveliood. Ottoman Empire had collected most of the taxes from agricultural products. If we scope on the number of religious officals and significance on zawiyah, vitality of religious life can be noticed easily. When we analyse the registers, we can see the existence of a dynamic population. Besides, emigree and visitors' registers inform us about vital statistics. Last of all, when we shoot a glance over the occupation status in population registers that we have mentioned broadly, it has clearly been seen that Çivril had had an influence as a village as much as a town had.
