An investigation of adolescents' conflict resolution skills in terms of resilience and cognitive flexibility

The aim of this study is to examine the conflict resolution skills of adolescent students in terms of psychological resilience and cognitive flexibility. The sample of the study consists of a total of 404 students aged 12-14, studying in the 7th and 8th grades in three secondary schools in the Selçuklu district of Konya. In order to collect data in the study, "Personal Information Form", "Conflict Resolution Skills Scale", "Psychological Resilience Scale" and "Cognitive Flexibility Inventory" were used. The research was carried out with the relational screening model. The data obtained from the measurement tools were transferred to the SPSS 21.00 package program and analyzed by the researcher. In the analysis of the data, normality, extreme value, homogeneity and linearity tests were performed. Before proceeding to the parametric test, the assumptions required for multicollinearity were tested. Multiple Regression Analysis was used to determine the predictive power of the variables. Multiple Regression Analysis was used in order to reveal the explanation rates of the dependent variable of the independent variables, and the analysis was performed by comparing the relative explanation levels with the standardized Beta values. T-test analysis was used for unrelated samples to determine whether there was a difference according to gender, and One-Way Analysis of Variance was used for unrelated samples to determine whether there was a difference according to age. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that psychological resilience, which is one of the independent variables, did not significantly predict integration, compliance, avoidance and domination, which are sub-dimensions of the conflict resolution scale. When the cognitive flexibility variable is examined, it is seen that it significantly predicts integration, compliance and domination sub-dimensions. It was observed that it did not significantly predict the avoidance sub-dimension. When the beta coefficient between cognitive flexibility and integration sub-dimension is examined, it is seen that it has a negative value. In other words, there was a negative significant relationship between cognitive flexibility and integration. There is a positive and significant relationship between the cognitive flexibility variable and the sub-dimensions of conformity and domination of conflict resolution. No significant difference was found between the mean scores of the conflict resolution sub-dimensions of conformity, integration, avoidance and domination scale of the male and female groups. In other words, there was no statistically significant difference between the averages of the groups. In order to test whether there is a difference between domination, compliance, integration and avoidance from the conflict resolution sub-dimension of 404 students belonging to different 3 age groups, the mean scores of all sub-dimensions of the groups formed according to their age were compared, and at the end of the test, no significant difference was observed between the averages of the students.
