Yazidis and Yazidism in Hayyatzāda's work (19th century) named "al-Faridah al-Saniyyah fi Bayān 'Aqāid wa Za'āimi Taifah al-Yazidiyyah"

This study deals with Khayyatzāde Ahmet Efendi's thoughts, who lived in Mosul in the 19th century, on Yazidis in the context of his work named "al-Faridah al- Saniyyah fi Bayān 'Aqāid wa Za'āim Taifah al-Yazidiyyah". Our study consists of an introduction and two parts. In the introduction; Yazidism as a faith will be covered in general terms. The relations of Yazidis, who came under Ottoman rule as of the 16th century, with the Ottomans will be revealed, and the roadblocks, robberies, rebellions, and the policies of the Ottomans against the Yazidis will be discussed. In the first part of our study, the social-political turmoil and general political situation of Devlet-i ʿAlīye, of which Yazidis were subjects, in the 19th century will be discussed. The socio-cultural political situation of Yazidis and the western state relations will be discussed. The Tanzimat Edict and the issue of compulsory military service, which caused the Yazidi society to come face to face with the Ottoman administration, will be discussed, and the aims of the Sublime Porte with compulsory military service will be mentioned. In the second part of the research, the manuscript book called "al-Faridah al- Saniyyah fi Bayān 'Aqāid wa Za'āim Taifah al-Yazidiyyah", which is at the center of the study and describes the thoughts of a 19th century religious scholar about the Yazidis, will be examined. Besides; the author, sources and copies of the manuscript book will be mentioned. Information will be given about the nature of the work in which Khayyatzâde's views on Yazidis are found and necessary evaluations will be made.
