Developments in education in the Abdülhamid II Cera: The case of Kastamonu

II. The Abdulhamid period was a period in which educational activities gained momentum. During this period, many schools at various levels were established throughout the state. In the study, II. During the reign of Abdülhamid, the studies in the field of education, developments, educational activities and new institutions opened throughout the country were tried to be addressed specifically for Kastamonu Province. In this study, in which the scanning-compilation method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, Maârif Yearbooks were taken as the main source. In addition, the archive documents and the data found in the Kastamonu Provincial Yearbooks were handled with the content analysis method. With the method of content analysis, data on subjects such as courses given in schools in the provincial center, sanjak, townships and villages, the number of educators, staff and students, appointments made to the school, the rank and salaries of the officers in charge were obtained and took part in the study. In addition to the local education institutions, information was given on the status of non-Muslim schools in the province. In addition to these, in the source reviews, the data obtained about the libraries in the province and the state of the printing house were also evaluated. As a result, II. During the reign of Abdülhamid, educational activities were structured by establishing a magistrate administration in Kastamonu Province. During this period, it was observed that many primary schools were opened in the province as the primary education level, and high schools, which are among the secondary education institutions, were established in the province. As another of the secondary education institutions, it is understood from the documents that the idâdî schools in the province of Kastamonu are also more important than the idâdîs found in the provinces of the country, except for a few. Again, during this period, it was seen in the examination that an Agriculture School and Industry School providing vocational training was established in the province.
