Approach of Molla Halil Siirdî to qira'at

Molla Halil Siirdî is one of the last period Ottoman scholars who lived in the last quarter of the 18th century and in the first half of the 19th century. He was closely interested in the science of qira'at, as in many Islamic sciences, and wrote a verse containing 1110 couplets. He himself annotated this work he wrote. In addition, in some of his works he wrote in other fields, he indirectly mentioned the qira'at, and made comments on. The aim of this study is to identify and evaluate his approach to the qira'at through the works he wrote. It is also among the aims of the study to reveal the qualities of his works written in the field of qira'at and to determine how they are when compared to other works written. In our effort to achieve our goal in question, we only focused on the aspect of qira'at approach of Molla Halil. Accordingly, we limited our work to examining the works he wrote on subject of qira'at, tafsir and linguistics, which would enable us to obtain information about the aspect of his approach to qira'at. In these works, we tried to identify the subjects of qira'at and words that he dealt with and to compare them with their status in other sources of qira'at. This study consists of an introduction and four chapters. In the first chapter, general information about Molla Halil and the science of recitation were presented, while in the second chapter, the official Qur'an was included, and in the third chapter, the methods of tajwid and qira'at methods were submitted, and in the fourth chapter, relations between official Qur'an, tafsir, linguistics were given place. Some of the known issues of tajwid, which Molla Halil tackled with in detail were not concentrated on in this study. Instead, a detailed discussion of the procedural issues especially about the ones that Molla Halil tackled with in terms of tajwid and qira'at with different approaches were focused on. As a result of all these investigations and researches, it was clearly seen that Molla Halil Siirdî meticulously handled the subjects of the Quran through tafsir and linguistics, and thus gained a different position from other leading scholars in the field. Another point that makes him prominent in the field is that he tackled with the issues of tajwid, official Qur'an, and qira'at together in a poetical way in his voluminous work in detail and annotated his own work himself.
