Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to determine the music instructors' view upon the stress factors which affects them at their workplace, at what levels these stress factors are perceived and the methods which they utilize in order to cope with said stress factors. Various socio-demographic variables such as sex, age, seniority and graduation are also factored in within this study. 54 of the attendants of this study are advising their age group as 21-30, 82 as 31-40, 44 as 41-50 and 24 as 51 and older. 204 music instructors are subject to this study. Research data has been gathered from "Personal Information Sheets", "Methods of Coping with Stress Factors" and "Stress Factors Research". Data that has been gathered analyzed with the "t" test, ANOVA and TUKEY test techniques. 36 article Stress Factor Research results and Turkish adoption of it formulated by Folkman & Lazarus in 1980, "Ways Coping Inventory" formulated by §ahin & Durak in 1994, the abbreviation, accuracy and dependability of "Methods of Coping with Stress Factors" formulated by §ahin & Durak in 1995 and 30 article Methods of Coping with Stress Factors have been used in this research. Study consists of 5 sub-dimensions as follows; Optimist Approach (OP; Optimistic), Self-Confident Approach (CA, Self-Confident), Helpless Approach (HA, Helpless), Submissive Approach (SA, Submissive) and Seeking of Social Support Approach (SS, Seeking of Social Support). Results of this research can be listed as follows: According to this study music instructors' work stress factors are listed as inadequate wages, tiresomeness of work and work environment, noisy work environment, long working hours, not enough feedback about what is expected from oneself, heavy workload, no motivation from the administrators, difficulty in giving important decisions, inadequate work equipment, inadequate usage of one's talents in work, uneasiness and tension in work environment, inability to get on with other colleagues, incompatibility with administrators, having no common interests with colleagues, disharmony between job and one's character, colleagues being from different political backgrounds, having to obey rules of other colleagues, low status of the job... It is also observed that the attendants are using coping with stress factors at low levels. Apart from these factors, it is observed that instructors working in public schools and working in crowded classes are more self-confident compared to others and the instructors aging between 31-40 working in middle level education have more optimistic approach with stress management. Factors such as gender, marital status, level of education, title, being part of sportive and cultural activities, attendance to the activities enforced by the school manager are found to have no effects. Study has been finalized with questioning of the outcomes and the suggestions. Keywords: Stress factors, stress coping, music instructors
