Abstract (EN)

The goal of this research is to examine preschool children's propensity for digital gaming addiction and their aggression orientation based on game types. The study group comprises 249 children and parents of 5-6 years of age who attend kindergartens in Sultangazi district of Istanbul. The study included "Personal Information Form" as a data collection tool, "Aggression Orientation Scale against 36-72-Month-Old Children" with the aim of measuring children's aggression orientation, "Digital Game Addiction Trend Scale" with the aim of measuring the digital play addiction trend and the ability for children to learn toy preferences. According to the results of the study, the subdivisions of conflict, continuous play and projection into life with the Digital Game Addiction Trend were found to differ significantly by gender, with boys having significantly higher levels of subdivisions of conflict, continuous play and projection into life than girls. Levels of physical aggression towards others and aggression towards objects/items differ at a significant level relative to gender, and these levels of aggression appear to be higher in men. Aggression was found to differ significantly based on the overall level of orientation scale and physical aggression towards others, relational aggression towards others, self-directed aggression sub-dimensions relative to the income status of the family. For the scale of digital gaming addiction trend; the overall level of digital gaming addiction tendency of those who opted for miniature toys, babies, current heroes, manipulative toys, electronic toys, violent toys and musical toys were found to be significantly higher than the overall level of digital gaming addiction tendency. The overall scale of digital gaming addiction tendency is at 26.9% with the aggression orientation scale overall, 32% with physical aggression against others, 17% with relational aggression against others, 25.9% with the sub-dimension of aggression towards objects/items.
