Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the color changes on the surface of the enamel due to application of four different adhesives used for bonding fixed orthodontic attachments, based on pre and post-treatment spectrophotometry. Twenty-five individuals who applied to Van Yuzuncu Yıl University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics for non-extraction fixed orthodontic treatment participated in this study. Transbond XT (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA), Kurasper F (Kuraray Europe GmbH, Frankfurt, Germany), Grengloo (Ormco Corporation, Glendora, CA, USA) and Light Bond (Relience Orthodontic Products, Itasca, IL, USA) were used for bonding fixed orthodontic attachments through randomization method so that each individual had a different adhesive in the half jaw. Pre and post-treatment color measurements were performed by using Spectro Shade Micro (MHT, International, Verona, Italy) from the middle part of the buccal surfaces of the maxillary and mandibular central, lateral and canine teeth. Color of the tooth was identified based on the CIE L* a* b* system, which indicated the coordinates of the color with the L*, a* and b* symbols; and the color changes (∆E) were calculated. Color changes for different groups were compared by using two-factor repeated measures analysis of variance, which was followed by the Tukey post-hoc test. In our study, the mean duration of treatment was 1,45 years, it was determined that there was a significant decrease in L* and b* values in the groups after the treatment when compared to pretreatment values; and, the change in a* value was not significant. It was observed that there were no significant differences between the groups in terms of ∆L, ∆a and ∆b values. The difference between Kurasper F and Transbond XT groups was not significant. However, only significant difference was found that the changes in the ∆E values of the Kurasper F group were less than the changes in Grengloo and Light Bond groups. From the clinical perspective, it was observed that ∆E values varied between 1.69 and 2.10 and an acceptable color change occurred. According to the results of our study, color changes occurred in Kurasper F, Transbond XT, Grengloo and Light Bond groups from less to more, respectively. However, only the difference between Kurasper F group and, Grengloo and Light bond groups was found to be statistically significant.
