Abstract (TR)

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by insulin resistance or relative insulin deficiency. Alarin and galanin are neuropeptides that play an important role in energy metabolism. In this study, we have studied alarin and galanin saliva and blood which we think may play a role in the etiopathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In addition, two salivary glands (submandibular and parotid glands) were stained with alarin and galanin antibodies to determine whether human salivary glands synthesize alarin and galanin. Thirty newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients and 30 healthy controls were included in the study. The patients were divided into 3 groups of new type 2 diabetes (pre-treatment), metformin therapy (post-treatment) for 12 weeks (control) and healthy subjects (control). The data were analyzed by SPSS 22 package program. Significance value was accepted as p<0.05. There was a statistically significant difference between the levels of alarin and galanin in the blood and control and patient groups. The levels of the patient group were higher than the control group (p<0.01). When the levels of alarine in the blood were compared in the patient (TÖ) and patient (TS) groups, there was a statistically significant increase in the pre-treatment group (p<0.01). When the levels of galanin in the blood were compared in the patient (TÖ) and patient (TS) groups, there was a statistically significant increase in the pretreatment group (p<0.05). In this study, both alarinin and galanin were synthesized immunohistochemically in the intercalated and striated channels of the parotid and submanibular glands. As a result, alarin and galanin are synthesized in submandibular and parotid glands. Alarin and galanin levels are higher in patients with type 2 diabetes than in healthy individuals. Metformin treatment also decreases the level of alarin and galanin in type 2 diabetes patients. Keywords: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Alarin, Galanin
