The relationship between multicultural personality traits and tourism perception of local people: The case of Diyarbakır

Tourism is one of the important sectors that contribute to the economic development of a region. Besides the economic benefits of tourism, it also has socio cultural and environmental impacts. The way these perceptions are perceived by local people is important for the development of regional tourism. The evaluation of the racial, religious, linguistic and cultural differences of the local people and the way they perceive tourism plays a role in the planning and development of the region in terms of knowing the local people. In this study, the perceptions of tourism are tried to be determined according to the multicultural personality characteristics of the local people in Diyarbakır. The aim of the study is to examine the perceptions of the local people regarding the socio cultural economic environmental effects of tourism according to the multicultural personality traits. With this research, it is aimed to reveal the perspectives of Diyarbakır tourism according to the multicultural personality characteristics of the local people and the way people in the society there are cultural differences are affected by tourism. The research population consists of Local people residing in Diyarbakir. Simple random sampling has been used in the research and 500 local people were surveyed. The resulting data has been analyzed with Statistical Program For Social Scientists (SPSS) package program. According to the findings, it is found that there was a significant difference between the sub-dimensions of multicultural personality traits and the perception of tourism. There was also a significant difference between the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants and their perceptions of tourism.
