Ngugi Wa Thiong'o's representation of The Mau-Mau Uprising in his Petals of Blood and A Grain of Wheat
This research is about two African novels in English, Petals of Blood (1977) and A Grain of Wheat (1967) written by Ngugi Wa Thiong'o, He is a well known African contemporary postcolonial writer. The purpose of his novels was to show the role of a long-lasting resisting movement of the Kenyas against the oppressive colonial rule in Kenya. These novels reveal people's dreams of new Kenya, the type of Kenya where everyone will be free to express their voices, where everyone will be able to get their stolen lands back from the colonizers. In addition, the other purpose of these novels is to subvert the power of the colonial text that misrepresents Kenya as a whole and that misrepresents Mau Mau revolution, depicting Mau-Mau as very evil.
Çin jeo-ekonomisi ve Afrika
Geçmişte diğer ülkelerin ekonomi kalkınması coğrafi savaşlardan geçiyorsa, 21. yüzyılda diğer ülkelerin fethi ekonomi yoluyla oluşuyor. Yeni terim jeo-ekonomi, her ülkenin dış ekonomisini tanımlar. Çin'in ihracatı dünyada birinci olduğundan dolayı Çin'in jeo-ekonomisi araştırmak önemlidir.

Turkey-Africa relations in the 21st century: Economic diplomacy
Turkish foreign policy towards Africa
After the Cold war, Turkey embarked on a process of refining its foreign policy to position itself strategically in the global scene. This resulted in a shift in its foreign policy towards Africa such that it is now more open to Africa. This thesis aims at analyzing the shift towards Africa and reflects on the policy formulation. The areas to be covered include the traditional foreign policy, new foreign policy changes, focus of Turkish foreign policy on Sub-Saharan Africa. The nature of Turkey's relationship with its traditional allies has significantly influenced its foreign policy towards Africa. The extents to which the different players have been involved in the realization of the Turkey's policy objectives will be analyzed too. The transformation of Turkish foreign policy in favor of Africa is not a reorientation of Turkey from its Western or Eurasian allies, but an autonomous reposition driven by domestic and international dynamics of politics and economy.
Security challenges of Cameroon and the effects on France-African relations
This thesis is focused on an overview of Cameroon's security challenges and the direct effects they will have in the entire Central African sub-region if patriotically addressed by the ruling elite. This thesis tries to answer the question why Cameroon though rich has many unattended security challenges. Secondly, it questions its domestic and foreign policies vis-à-vis its immediate neighbors as well as its foreign Western partners. In other words, it explores, firstly, the egocentric politics of its ruling elites and on the international scene, the economic interaction (diplomacy) that fosters the relations between China, and now Russia and very recently, Turkey. It's worth noting that the arrival of Turkey and others directly threatens France's interests. This thesis consists of five main chapters. The first chapter gives a general overview of the research materials and plan of the thesis. The second chapter defines some key concepts like foreign policy, security, France-Afrique and gives an overview of the conceptual framework of security studies beginning first from the general point of view and then narrowing it down to the epicenter of the study, Cameroon. The third chapter presents the history of Cameroon from colonization to independence. It also in some ways highlights its current security challenges. The fourth chapter deeply elucidates the current security threats of Cameroon, the geopolitical positioning of Cameroon and looks at the game in the Gulf of Guinea. It also suggests a largesse why Cameroon and many other countries within the belt of the Gulf of Guinea must endeavor to reformulate their policies for an emerging Africa if they ever dream of advancing. Lastly, the counter security measures come in as the culmination of the study and conclude with what Cameroon has achieved and what the setbacks are.
Defragmentation of social genocide in A Bend in the River by V. S. Naipaul and A Grain of Wheat by Ngugi Wa Thiong'o
This dissertation aims to state "social genocide" term in post-colonial era and analyse them in the selected works, in the order of; A Bend in the River by V. S. Naipaul and A Grain of Wheat by Ngũgĩ Wa Thiong'o. In this respect, the perspectives of the two writers about colonisation, imperialism and social genocide are examined in the light of their other works and other sources related to the topic. In the analysed literary works, the coloniser is shown as the superior force and the basic structure of the social genocide because of their subhuman wills. As the initiation and the source of these aims, the Industrial Revolution is examined in the first place. The Industrial Revolution was a turning point in the world and it caused several major changes for each society during its time and afterwards. Even though it brought many benefits to England, it also ended up with harsh conditions for its own society. On the other hand, the thought of having an endless power created a way for Europeans to have an idea of possessing other regions with this power and brought colonisation to African countries. However, colonisation did not remain only as a policy and did not bring civilisation to the countries as it was claimed. It changed the lives, culture, language and traditions of the indigenous people. Furthermore, this practice brought about genocide but not only physically, but also socially and psychologically because the destruction of a society's culture means destroying that society which leads to social genocide. All these perspectives of colonisation and the results of it as a social genocide are narrated in the works of V. S. Naipaul and Ngugi Wa Thiong'o. V. S. Naipaul demonstrates both the colonisation and neocolonialism periods by the characters and the themes in A Bend in the River. By the characters he embodies the colonisation and in this way as a result of it, social genocide is clearly seen from each perspective. In another perspective, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o describes colonisation by narrating only four days before the independence of Kenya. However, these four days express all the incidents and the hardships of indigenous people caused by colonisation, and thereby, this work goes beyond its time. Considering all the evidences from these two novels and the secondary sources, colonial periods, the effects of colonisation, the roles of the coloniser and the colonised and social genocide as a result of colonisation are examined in this study.

The lack of regional hegemon in Africa: Perspectives from international relations theories
This study is an attempt to understand why Africa lacks a regional hegemon and the seeming lack of aspirations by any African state towards this end. The logic behind this rests with the hypothesis that African problems would be easily managed and effectively addressed if effective leadership (regional hegemon) exists. The lack of same dissuades the focus and direction needed and benchmarks the openness and exposure of the continent to exploitation by other regional and global superpowers. The study was carried-out by analyzing and testing the logical fundamentals of the three basic theories of international relations: realism, liberalism and constructivism. In other words, the researcher employed a theory testing approach to examine the puzzle under consideration. From the examination of the three basic theories of International relation, it emerged that the realist perspective offered better explanatory power than the other two perspectives. In an intriguing fashion, the explanations provided by the two perspectives (liberalism and constructivism) go to reinforce the logical consistency and psychoanalyses of leadership presented by the realist perspective. In other words, the two theories explain the 'means' towards an 'end' sanctioned in the realist thought – hegemonic power.
Corporate social responsibility in Ethiopia: Approaches and practices
There exists a great deal of academic writings about corporate social responsibility. However, the context of these papers is somehow similar focusing on the developed countries. Ethiopia, where the state is also a key player in the business has quite different business, state, and society interaction. In addition to the state‟s high stake in the business, the leverage of intellectual freedom, strong media, independent civil associations, activist and advocacy groups who had played a key role in transforming the notion of corporate social responsibility is so weak in Ethiopia. Hence it is an ideal context with less driving forces to measure companies‟ corporate social responsibility practices. Given the fact that corporate social responsibility is an under-researched area in developing countries, this paper aims to examine corporate social responsibility approaches and practices of indigenous firms in Ethiopia. Moreover, it will assess the stage of corporate social responsibility practice. Last but not least, this paper compares corporate social responsibility practices between private and state-owned companies. The finding reveals hat, though it is fragmented and the priorities are different from the global trend, Ethiopian companies practice CSR. In addition, there is no statistically significant differences between the CSR practices of private and state-owned businesses. Hopes in transition: an ethnography of sub-saharan African migrants in Istanbul
Istanbul has become one of the most crucial nodes in the global network of refugees and migrants' trails, routes and destinations to Europe. Consequently, Istanbul has become a "hub" for migrants and refugees who are waiting impatiently to sneak across the border in the dark of the night to Greece or Bulgaria. Moreover, sub-Saharan African transit migrants' numbers have increased drastically in Istanbul over the years. This phenomenon is the subject matter of this ethnographic research project. This research has three objectives: first and foremost, is to explore the causes and triggers of migration in Sub-Saharan African countries; Second, is to relay the lived experiences, testimonies, voices, struggles, "victories", resilience, hurdles and pains of the Sub-Saharan African migrant throughout the long journeys that are imbued with hopes of prosperity but that have in-store for the migrants detentions, violence, death, rape, vulnerability, exploitation, racism, Xenophobia, uncertainties, humanitarian aid, and sensationalist media coverage; third, is to offer an ethnographic account of sub-Saharan African migrants' life-experiences, life-conditions and livelihoods in Istanbul. The aim of this study is to paint and portray the sub-Saharan African migrants and refugees as victims and "creation" of a multi-faceted and complex interactions of matrices. These include: the brutal legacy of colonialism and its subsequent demolition of existing indigenous social, environmental and political institution; the failure of the post-colonial nationbuilding processes in many sub-Saharan Africa countries; exploitative capitalism and financial corporations that has wreak havoc on the environments, hence altering centuries-long communal lives and their natural eco-system. This thesis aims to contribute to the sociology and anthropology of migration studies in Turkey and subsequently critique and challenge essentialist approaches predicated on security, humanitarianism, nationalist and integration perspectives that disregard implicitly and discursively the life experiences, testimonies and personal struggles of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Rwanda's rise over the past 20 years
Many countries in the African continent have been struggling with hunger, terrorism, and economic crises for years. In the process from the past to the present, the need for raw materials has increased with the development of the industry. Since the end of the 19th century, however, countries that are superpowers have seen countries with rich underground and aboveground resources, and easy management as targets for their own interests. Countries that fit this definition are mostly located on the African continent. Unable to determine their own political and economic future, these countries faced starvation, chaos, economic crises, terrorist activities and similar negativities. Rwanda survived the Belgian mandate in 1959 and witnessed the largest genocide in world history in 1994. After this great human tragedy, Rwanda decided to develop political, economic and cultural reforms in 1996. The coming to power of Paul Kagame in 2000 and remaining unchanged for 20 years enabled the country to rapidly develop economically and politically. While developing rapidly, Rwanda, which follows policies different from the policies implemented by many countries in Africa, has set an example for many countries in Africa with its rapidly developing economy and level of development. This rate of development makes Rwanda's strategy worth exploring. Looking at the previous studies, most of the studies on Rwanda are from the historical background of Rwanda-Burundi and the colonies of Belgium and France or the Rwanda genocide. However, Rwanda has started to develop its economy rapidly by implementing the financial policies implemented by Singapore to develop. This study is written to draw attention to the development of Rwanda, a small country in Africa, and to examine the rate of development in the country according to basic development criteria such as health, economy, trade, and education.

Exploration of identity in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Purple Hibiscus, Half of A Yellow Sun, and Americanah
The present thesis will attempt to explore identity from the approach of a post-colonialist perspective and shed light on an African-American writer who used identity as a primary theme in most of her novels. This present study is the analysis of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's three books and the study will describe how the main female characters in all of these fights to construct her identity as a woman struggling with her current society, and how this affects her growth of selfhood. This thesis will emphasis on female characters in Adichie's works to establish their identity and determine how they found their postcolonial individuality. Identity is a frequent theme throughout the three novels that will be explored in this thesis. In this thesis, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novels and main women characters that will be examined are Kambili in Purple Hibiscus (2003), Ifemelu in Americanah (2013) and Olanna Ozobia in Half of a Yellow Sun (2014). The female characters in these novels relate in that they are all trying to find out who they are as women in their current societies. The central characters in these three novels have described as smart, powerful, and autonomous young women who cross beyond desires in their contemporary culture. Furthermore, how social pressures like those that racial differences and patriarchy difficulties have performed through immigration described. They ask themselves some questions like ‗who am I?', ‗what am I?' to discover their place in this world, and create a room for themselves both on the inside and the outside.
Güç kavramı gerek Siyaset Bilimi'nin gerekse Uluslararası İlişkiler'in merkezindeki bir kavramdır.
African mechanisms for the resolution of armed regional conflicts: An applied study on ECOWAS
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a sub-regional organization erected on the 28th of May, 1975 through the Lagos treaty. The primary objective of ECOWAS according to the 1975 was to promote economic cooperation among the fifteen countries that were signatory to the treaty and ratified it. However, the region has become home not only to economic problems, but also armed conflicts. This study aims to examine ECOWAS mechanisms for armed conflicts. The study exposes the various treaties including the 1993 revised version in a bid to understand and explain the effectiveness, achievements and limitations of the existing mechanisms for armed conflicts resolution within ECOWAS. The key questions for which answers are sought in this research are: 1) what is the aim of integrating the countries of the sub-region? 2) What is the armed conflict resolution mechanism of ECOWAS? 3) To what extent has ECOWAS armed conflict resolution mechanism performed? The study argues that ECOWAS has delivered economically, but undeforming in conflict resolution in the sub-region.
