Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Objectives Disability is a global public health issue. People with disabilities have become an object of public health because they are protected from some of them and if they are rehabilitated they can be prevented from being addicted. In this study, it is aimed to find the number of the defective people in Hazro, to find the reasons of these disablements, to determine if these disablements are natural born or occured, to find out if they are taking rehabilitation or not and to be reference for the future projects about disablement. Material and Method This cross-sectional research population consists of 1069 people representing 4222 individuals in the central 7 quarter district of Hazro. Data from 1069 individuals selected with multi-stage (weighted and systematic) sampling are collected by visiting 199 households and conducting face-to-face surveys. Survey on the socio-demographic characteristics of the households and the Individual Disability Evaluation Form are used in the survey. The research data is evaluated in computer environment by using SPSS 21 package program. Results The women constitute the 55,7% of the participants and the men are the 44,3% of them. The prevalence of disability is found to be 13,8% in total, 12,8% in males and 15,2% in females. Disability prevalances are the highest in 65 and over age group (53,3%). 42,8% of the disabled people are ineducated and 16,7 % of them don't have any social insurance. 21,6% of disabled individuals'disabilities are congenital, 78,4% of disabilities occured after birth. First of the disability causes which occured after birth is found as chronic diseases, the first inborn disability cause is found as genetics disorders. The most common defect types are successively; visceral disablement (56,0%), skeleton system disablement (25,0%), hearing disablement (13,5%), eye and visual disablement (12,8%), intellectual disablement (8,1%), language and speech disablement (4,0%), appearance disablement (4,7%) and physiological disablement (0,6%). Among those with consanguineous marriage between parents and those with disabilities in their family history, the incidence of congenital disabilities is higher than non-consensual marriages. It is defined that 37,8 % of the disabled don't take any suitable medical treatment for their disability, 98,0 % don't use rehabilitation services. It is found that the most important expectations of the disabled people and their families are 15,5% for financial contribution, 12,2% for helping to find a job, and 50,0% for facilitating access to health services. Conclusion It is determined that the rate of the disablement is more in under-educated group, the chronicle diseases are frequent and another important problem of the area is relative marriage. Genetic consultancy and consultancy services for chronic diseases should be provided by educated personnel to the people of the region. It is important to educate the disabled in the province, to access the health institutions and benefit from rehabilitation services for all the disabled people. This means that important duties are charged to health and social security institutions
