Belleğin mimari üzerindeki etkisi tasarım: İlişkinin keşfedilmesitanıma ile bellek arasında hatırlamak

The mechanism of memory for architects is fundamental to investigate and understand since it plays a crucial role in architecture and to help architects understand how their concepts, decisions and designs are formed or inspired. Architects usually catch a house on the street or an image of a building in an article that it is definitely known but there are some common details that cannot be remembered about it. Some details that are blurred sometimes, though it looks so familiar, like the architect who designed it, the year it was built at, the city where that building is located or some architectural details about that building itself, like its colour, materials used on the facades, the shape of windows or balconies and so on. Details that are related to what the architects can remember about any building or image that he sees, or details he can recognize immediately from the first sight, or other details that might take more time to be recalled or recognized. Each architect has his own storage of these details that helps him to create his own language in architecture, a language that represents a vision most of the times, but what affect this language is important, any concept, idea, detail or memory can be considered as vocabulary for that language, those details are recalled later to create that comprehended language. Those recall, retrieve, remember and recognize actions help enhance and enrich the architectural language with all the meaning and concepts that might be brought within, these actions can be gathered under the title of memory with all the divisions it might include. Since there are two classifications of memory retrieval as Psychologists mentioned: (recall and recognition), several questions might be asked: What is recall? What is recognition? Are recall and recognition are related procedures or not? Do architects depend on recall, recognition or both of them while starting their early steps of any design? An experiment on a number of architects was managed in this research to provide better understanding of the relation between recall and recognition actions and their effects on architects and design process in architecture. Though recall and recognition considered as two activities, the research investigates the relation between them and whether these procedures require separate cognitive processes or do they complete each other? Do they have any effects on architects while starting their designs?

UNESCO dünya mirası tanımlamasında mimari kriterler: Türkiye'de seçilmiş yerlerin karşılaştırmalı bir incelenmesi

World Heritage Sites represent the natural, cultural and/or historical background of a specific country or region. Since the announcements of the including of the tangible world heritages (e.g. Buildings) to the World Cultural and Natural Heritage list in 1972, All governments and associations rushed to inscribe their tangible heritages for several reasons. Many selected sites with distinguished vernacular architecture were added to the list; however, the architecture was never the main aspect for the selection. In this thesis, the aim is to examine the impact of architectural features and construction techniques on the selection of three World Heritage Sites located in Türkiye. This will be achieved by assessing whether the settlement pattern, building envelope and structural elements of each site fulfil UNESCO criteria led to their designation as a World Heritage Site. To conduct this study, a comparative methodology was used, relying on data collected from literature. This study confirms that the architectural features and construction techniques fulfilled at least one out of the ten UNESCO's selectıon criteria. However, we conclude that architecture alone was never sufficient for inscription as UNESCO World Heritage Site; rather, multiple aspects must simultaneously fulfil UNESCO's selection criteria.

Bağcılar'da deprem riskli bölgelerin kümelenme ile anlaşılması şehir planlama stratejileri için kümeleme anlamına gelir

In earthquake-particular regions, putting out urban planning first makes it possible to prevent the loss of lives, infrastructure, and communities from the effects of earthquakes. With preventive and comprehensive planning, urban planners will be able to face risks and improve resilience while providing for an area's development to be sustainable. Bağcılar is fourth most populous in the Istanbul Municipality of Turkey, is not exempt from this threat. This research focuses on a Bağcılar, within the broader context of Urban Planning for minimizing Earthquake Risk Building Architectures. The high, medium and low risk neighborhoods in the Bağcılar region and the neighborhoods that suffer from common risk factors were identified and urban planning strategies were given to avoid earthquake risks and their impact on residential and architectural buildings in the urban fabric of the Bağcılar region. The findings and methodologies developed in this study can be extended to other regions within Türkiye and serve as a blueprint for seismic risk assessments in similar urban settings worldwide. Here, we start with a critical analysis of the present urban planning systems in Bağcılar focusing on their ability to represent buildings in the context of seismic risks. It involved a thorough review of the existing policies and decision-making processes with details of the areas that need improvement and they will be used in the next step. In addition to this, we planned to assess the contribution of the different machine learning techniques, including highly intelligent clustering algorithms and feature reduction techniques. Furthermore, targeting those specific building components that make Bağcılar's building collapse uniquely hazardous during earthquakes and that influence the effective earthquake risk assessment and urban planning strategies are also included in our research plan. In a wider sense, it was an investigation of certain determinants such as building materials, architectural styles, and construction techniques to get a clear picture of how these factors contribute to seismic resistance. As a result, the translation of research outcomes intopractical applications contributes to the improvement of earthquake risk assessment and the making of that area to be better prepared before disasters. Such response consists of the provision of implementable suggestions and instructions that involve the local context as well as giving out tools and strategies for the stakeholders to use to build more resilient communities and infrastructure.
