Factors Influencing Intention(s) to Use Electronic Payment Systems: The Case of North Cyprus

Ever since the development of commercial space on the internet back in the early 1990s, different types of electronic payment systems (EPS) and vendors have emerged. The popularity of EPS has been facilitated by the growth of the internet and attracted the attention of both academics and practioners. Although numerous studies have been carried out in the field of EPS, none of these have investigated the effect of self-confidence. In this study, self-confidence has been studied in its distinct forms namely general and specific self-confidence. Furthermore, provided benefit and risk have been investigated from the perspective of individuals as opposed to merchants’. In that regard, this study have aimed to established whether: (i) general self-confidence has an effect on individuals’ intention to use electronic payment systems; (ii) specific self-confidence has an effect on individuals’ intention to use electronic payment systems, (iii) any relationship exists between these two types of confidence and perceived risk as well as perceived benefits of using electronic payment systems. A broad literature review was engaged in order to conceptualize the variables of perceived benefit, perceived risk, general self-confidence and specific self-confidence, and their effect on consumer behaviour. Following that, four hypotheses were developed to examine the possible effect of these variables on the intention to use electronic payment systems. The hypotheses were investigated using t-tests, ANOVA tests and regression analysis of data obtained via a survey of 473 respondents in North Cyprus. The findings showed that both general and specific self-confidence do not have a significant effect but perceived benefit and perceived risk have a significant iv positive effect on the intention to use electronic payment systems. Moreover, it was also found that there was a positive relationship between perceived benefit and perceived risk. To conclude, the theoretical and managerial implications of the findings, the limitations of the study and directions for future research are discussed. Keywords: Intention(s) to use Electronic Payment System, General Self-Confidence, Specific Self-Confidence, Perceived Risk, Perceived Benefit.

Determinants on Green Product Purchasing Intention: The Case of Recycled Plastic Products

Human kind has the majority share of creating waste and this waste endangers the life of many living now and should be considered as a great threat for next generation if not managed deliberately. Simultaneously ethical thinking and to a recent trend green consumerism had become an interesting topic for scholars to follow and is clearly requires a great understanding of purchasing intention for ultimate users of such products. Although it is important to note that the subject of green consumer is not a new topic. In this research a green consumer’s attitude and behavior towards green product purchase are examined. Katz (1960) proposed a behavioral theory known as the functional attitude theory. Functional attitude theory withholds that attitudes evolve in individuals as a mean to serve their goals, and all attitudes intentionally minister this basic function to a proportion. Aiding from this theory in this research it is aimed to demonstrate reasons behind attitude and purchase intentions made by consumers of environmental friendly matters such as recycled plastic substances. Otoo et al. (2018) stated that waste is rich in water, nutrients, energy and organic compounds, thus it is a suitable input alternative for (recycled) production, that’s the main reason why recycled plastic product is chosen as the main green product. The structure of this dissertation begins with a literature review and compiling solid information to form hypotheses. The main objective of this dissertation is purchase intentions of recycled plastic products. This behavior arouse from an affective attitude that is also measured. Merely this attitude comes from three main functions and these functions include utilitarian, social-adjustive and value-expressive. As a moderating factor the effect of emotional value is also examined. The data was collected from 550 respondents sampled from country of Iran. The content of findings were also included in this dissertation followed by discussion about the objectives of the research from the findings. In this research 3 sets of functional attitude that serve as a function are found to be having a positive effect on the affective attitude that leads to purchase intention with the exception of emotional value moderating the expressive functions. Nonetheless, similar to any social science research, limitations and future implementations of this research were also exhausted in the final chapter. Keywords: Attitude, Behavior, Emotional Value, Functional Attitude Theory, Green Consumer, Green Marketing, Green Purchase Intetion, Purchase Intention, Recycled Plastic Products, Social-Adjustive, Utilitarian, Value-Expressive.

Factors That Influence Initial Trust Among International Students in Internet Banking (KOOP Bank)

As technology advances, people are becoming more dependent on internet based services such as online shopping, online consultations, e-banking. It facilitates and speeds up their decision making process, their transactions and purchases that nowadays are literally “a click or a touch away”. In addition, a variety of alternatives is offered to users which enables them to switch easily from a company to another, and this puts more pressure on the service provider to stand out among the rivals. Trust plays a significant role in the online world due to lack of direct personal interactions throughout the transactions’ processes. Initial trust is even a more complicated concept to build between a business and its customers since customers are not familiar with the firm which increases their perception of risk. This study is based on internet banking services that are offered through the website. KOOP bank, a national Turkish Cypriot bank is the bank understudy. The main purpose of the research is to test a suggested model about initial trust’s antecedents. Those factors are perceived reputation of KOOP bank, its perceived willingness to customize, the perceived ease of use of the website, the perceived usefulness, the perceived security control, the perceived interactivity and the website’s visitor trust propensity. The data was collected from 340 International students currently studying in Eastern Mediterranean University in TRNC. Only 301 responses were taken under consideration since the others were no longer at their initial stage of trust with the bank. Based on the analysis’s results, trust propensity and the website’s usefulness were not supported showing insignificant predictive power over initial trust. But there was a positive strong relationship among all of our factors and initial trust. This research includes discussion of the findings and recommendations to KOOP bank’s management. Nonetheless, there has been a few limitations to the study that were discussed in our last chapter, in addition to suggestions of future studies. People used to traditionally go to a restaurant and order from a menu. Nowadays, a new trend has shown up, ordering food online. The internet has made this available and facilitated it. In this study, the effects of certain factors of perception on the intention to order food online have been investigated. These factors are perceived trust, perceived quality, perceived security, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use. In that regard, the study has aimed to establish if: (i) perceived trust has an effect on customer intention to order food online; (ii) perceived quality has an effect on customer intention to order food online; (iii) perceived security has an effect on customer intention to order food online; (iv) perceived usefulness has an effect on customer intention to order food online; (v) perceived usefulness has an effect on customer intention to order food online. An extensive and broad literature review was engaged in order to form a concept from the variables of perceived trust, perceived quality, perceived security, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and their effects on consumer behavior, notably consumer intention to purchase food online. Following that, five hypotheses were pointed out to determine any possible effects of these variables on the intention to purchase food online. Later on during the study, only four hypotheses were kept due to errors in data analysis. The remaining four hypotheses were investigated using T-tests, ANOVA tests in addition to a regression analysis of the data which was collected from a survey of 225 respondents in Famagusta, North Cyprus. The findings showed that every factor had a significant and positive effect on consumer intention to order food online, but not all in the same degree. To conclude this study, a theoretical and managerial implication of the findings, the limitations that the study faced, and suggestions for future research are discussed.

Influence of Big Five Personality Model on Propensity to Complain – A case of dormitory

The importance of complaining behavior has been discovered long ago, and the attention from only 1970s had been mainly considered (Fornell and Westbrook, 1979). Unsatisfied individuals who express their feelings and thoughts, experience significant elevation in satisfaction when they assess products or services compared those who do not comment. Research done by scholars leave evidence showing that distinguishing the difference between attitudinal complain and propensity to complain is relevantly a difficult task (Susskind, 2006). Scholars have suggested that when individuals complain there are factors influencing this behavior. These major factors are categorized as personal, culture and situational. The personal factors had been studied by scholars for years and the outcome have asserted the fact that personality traits are key determinant driving this behavior (Fornell and Westbrook, 1979; Jacoby and Jaccard, 1981; Richins, 1983; Singh, 1990; Harris and Mowen, 2001; Phau and Sari, 2004; Bodey and Grace, 2007; Grougio and Pettigrew, 2009; Sharma et al., 2010; Ekinci et al., 2016). In this study Big Five personality traits model is examined and the relevant instruments are used to probe the students in Eastern Mediterranean University of North Cyprus propensity to complain. Given this aim, there are several objectives than can be hypothesized as outcomes of this study. Data collection was conducted among 385 students from EMU dormitories in campus area. In total five hypotheses are proposed to be tested in this thesis. Based on the study and exhausted hypotheses, it is concluded that students with personality traits of Conscientiousness and Emotional Stability has relatively positive and negative tendency on propensity to complain. The content of findings were included in this thesis followed by discussion about the objectives of the study from the findings. Nonetheless, similar to any social science research, limitations and future implementations of this research were also exhausted in the final chapter.
