Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this in vitro study is to compare the excess amount of adhesive flash of color changing (GrēnglooTM, Ormco ) and conventional (Transbond XTTM, 3M Unitek ) two different adhesives around the brackets with scanning electron microscope after curing. Materials and Methods: Thirty premolar teeth were used in the study. The teeth were shortened in buccolingual and occlusogingival directions below the enamel cement border to remove the root and lingual regions so that they could give better image on the electron microscope. The prepared samples were divided into two groups as color changing adhesive and in conventional enamel color adhesive (n = 15). Metal premolar brackets (Mini Master ®,Ortho System, American Orthodontics, USA) were applied to the buccal surfaces of the teeth in the 1st group with the color change light curing orthodontic adhesive system (GrēnglooTM, Ormco) and in the 2nd group with the convantional enamel color light curing orthodontic adhesive (Transbond XTTM, 3M Unitek, Monrovia, California ). After the brackets were removed from the tooth surface by means of hand plier, all tooth surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscopy and images were recorded on a computer. Using the IMAGE J program, the areas of the tooth on the images were removed from the image and the total area of the adhesive was measured. From the measurements, the amount of adhesive was determined by subtracting the base area of the bracket. Student's t-test was used to determine the difference between the groups in terms of the amount of adhesive in the statistical evaluation. Results : There was a statistically significant difference between the amount of excess adhesive in Transbond XTTM (1.92 ± 1.420 mm2) and the amount of excess adhesive in GrēnglooTM (0.95 ± 0.632 mm2) (t (28) = 2.418, p = 0.006). Accordingly, the amount of excess adhesive (= 1.9206) in the Transbond XT group is greater than that of the Grēngloo (= 0.9506) group. Conclusion: The use of color change adhesive reduces the amount of excess adhesive flash around the bracket after polymerisation, ensuring better cleaning of the excess adhesive flash. Key words: orthodontic adhesive, color changing adhesive, excess adhesive flash, scanning electron microscope, SEM.
