Abstract (EN)
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) that that results from insulin resistance and insufficieny in insulin secretion is a chronic, metabolic, disorder in which prevalence has been in creasing steadily all over the world and our country. Deterioration of blood lipids is often observed among T2DM patients. This study was conducted on participated type 2 diabetes patients, overaged 18 with various educational bacgrounds, and not using statin group (lipid-lowering) medications at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Hospital Diet Polyclinic, A questionnaire including demographic characteristics, nutritional habits and food consumption frequencies was applied to all participants by face-to-face interview method. Theamount of omega 3 that individuals consume with food and supplements was calculated, and the participants were divided into 2 groups as patients with insufficient omega 3 intakes and sufficient omega intakes. This study was conducted to assess the impact of the level of Omega-3 consumptionon blood lipid profile (Total-K, HDL-K, LDL-K, Triglyceride) and Hba1c levels among type 2 diabetes patients .In this study, the blood values of 100 patients (59 women, 41 men) retrospectively reviewed. All the analyses were performed using SPSS 27.0 program. The mean values of blood lipid levels of participants Total cholesterol 200.0±50.2 mg/dL, LDL cholesterol 130.8±37.8 mg/dLHDL cholesterol 52.7±17.6 mg/dL, Triglyceride 156.2±101, 8 mg/dLwerefound. The mean of HbA1c was 7.7±1.6. participants with sufficient omega 3 consumptionlevels had insufficient HbA1c and triglyceride values, and higher HDL-K values (p < 0.05). Total-K and LDL-K values were not statistically significantly different between the groups with high and low Omega 3 consumption levels (p>0.05). In addition, the body massindex (BMI) values of participants with high Omega 3 consumption levels were found to be lower. (p < 0.05). As a result, the study has showed that in creased amount of omega 3 consumption has had positive impact on blood lipid profile and HbA1c values of diabetic study participants.
