Evaluation effectiveness of the planned nursing education related to problems could ocur dependent on chemotherapy treatment to caregivers of children stay i̇n hospital because of chemotherapy

The problems which ocur dependent on chemotherapy could decrease the quality of life of the children and increase health workload by prolonging treatment duration. Caregivers of children with cancers hould needed to deal with the childrenone-to-one at thetreatment progress,beresponsible for their care. Also, they have got important roles for preventing the problems because of chemotherapy treatment, determining them in early stage and announcing. This study that is aimed to evaluate effectiveness of the planned nursing education related to problems could ocur dependent on chemotherapy treatment to caregivers of children stay in hospital because of chemotherapy was a pre-post test, experimental study. Total 40 caregivers who accepted to participate to the study and whose child was newdiagnosed as cancer consisted of thesample. Data was collected with question naire form and Chemotherapy Informing Booklet forthe Patientand Relatives between 14.12.2014-20.12.2015. For evaluation frequency, percentage, Kruskal Wallis,Wilcoxontests were used and value accepted as significant p<0.05. It is found that knowledge scores of caregivers was low before education but after education it increased in alltitles (infection, bleeding risk, nutritionand oral care). Also, the difference between knowledge scores before and after education was determined as significant (p<0.05) and planned nursing education was effective. It is suggested that before chemotherapy treatment planned nursing education related to chemotherapy adverse effects should be given in pediatric hematology oncology clinics and different studies about subjects should be conducted.
