Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY Insulin resistance is defined as impaired insulin action in the glucose homeostasis or insufficiency in response to insulin. Genetic factors, fetal malnutrition, physical inactivity, obesity, and progression of age cause insulin resistance. Insulin resistance; which is the main factor in the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, obesity, dyslipidemia, glucose intolerance, is an inherited pathology of the genetically that can be noticed 25% of the population. Considering the metabolic diseases that start with insulin resistance, the prominence of related resistance is becoming more important. Along with aging, the efficiency of insulin is decreasing in the regulation of blood glucose. There may be other causes associated with the aging process in the deterioration of insulin mechanism and glucose tolerance. The decrease in physical activity and the increase in fat tissue, especially the upper belly fat plays a role in the development of insulin resistance. This study was carried out between January 2018 and April 2018 with individuals who had been diagnosed with insulin resistance as a result of biochemical tests and applied to Özel Bilge Hospital Internal Medicine Policlinic. The research covers 36 adult women between the ages of 20 and 60 who voluntarily accepted to participate in the study. Individuals participating in the study received height lengths, body weights, body fat percentages. Individuals' demographic characteristics, general health status, and general eating habits were filled out by the researcher with face-to-face interview using a questionnaire. Individuals participating in the study were evaluated in three age groups: When the age distribution of participants is examined; 36,1% (13 individuals) are between 20-35 years, 33,3% (12 individuals) are between 36-45 years, 30,6% (11 individuals) are between 46-60 years old. According to age classification of individuals (p≤0.05), there was a significant correlation between body mass index (BMI), fat ratio (%), waist circumference (cm) and fasting blood glucose. There was no significant relationship between age groups, BMI and waist circumference values and HOMA-IR test results (p> 0,05). Key words: insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, abdominal fatness, obesity, fasting blood glucose
