Abstract (EN)

ATALAY Y. (2012) An Experimental Investigation of Histopathologic Aspects of Electromagnetic Field And Pentoxifylline Effects On Bone Healing. Instıtute for Health Sciences. Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Dicle, Doctora thesis Diyarbakir, Turkey.Maxillofacial area is one of the mostly effected region in facial traumas. Facial injury is present in more than % 60 of patients with multi-system trauma are emphasized in the literature. Traffic accidents, fall downs, gunshot injuries, work accident and sport injuries are the important etiologic factors in facial injuries. Today, jaw bone fracture plays major role in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In the literature; bone healing is as important as diagnosis, treatment, complications of the maxillofacial fractures. The healthy physilogy of the bone healing is one of the essential factors in the success of a wide variety of surgical procedures such as graft application, orthognatic surgery and repairing of bone defects. The aim of this study is to research and compare the repairing effect of pentoxifilyn as a periferic vasodilatator and pulsed low density electromagnetic field application on bone fracture healing in rat model. In our study, 80 male Wistar Albino rats 300±20gr weights, 6 months old-were used. They were divided randomisely at 8 groups, per group included 10 rats. Under general anesthesia. Left femurs of all rats horizontal bone incision was made unilaterally. After the reposition of bone segments, was applied by microplate and microscrews. After the application of micro plate, healing to be followed and animals were sacrificated in 21th day in first control group and second control group was sacrificated in 30th day. Rats in group 3 after the application of micro plate by applying electromagnetic field, healing to be followed and animals were sacrificated in 21th day. Rats in group 4 after the application of micro plate by applying electromagnetic field, healing to be followed and animals were sacrificated in 30th day. Rats in group 5 after the application of micro plate by applying pentoxifylline, healing to be followed and animals were sacrificated in 21th day. Rats in group 6 after the application of micro plate by applying pentoxifylline, healing to be followed and animals were sacrificated in 30th day. Rats in group 7after the application of micro plate by applying pentoxifylline and electromagnetic field, healing to be followed and animals were sacrificated in 30th day. Rats in group 8 after the application of micro plate by applying pentoxifylline and electromagnetic field, healing to be followed and animals were sacrificated in 30th day. All rats sacrificed, examined histopathologically to investigate fracture healing. Datas were analyzed statisticallyIn the conclusion, 21 day and 30 day periods of EMA and pentoxifylline applications, microscopically and statistically were found significant on bone healing. However, the combined groups of EMA and pentoxifylline, result was found insignificant onbone healing.
