Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in 99 female and 101 male subjects aged 20 and over who did not have diabetes from Şişli Family Health Center. Purpose of this study is to determine and evaluate dystolic and systolic blood pressure effects of the dietary habits, body mass index and waist circumference. Also, the prevalence of obesity according to waist circumference and BMI; gender, age groups and eating habits. Individuals participating in the study are divided into groups of 20-40, 41-60 and 61 and over according to their age as male and female. A questionnaire including personal eating habits, health status and lifestyle information was applied to participants. Anthropometric measurements of individuals were obtained from our healthcare center where we provided systolic and diastolic blood pressure information. Independent samples test, Pearson correlation analysis, Chi-square test and ANOVA analysis were used to analyze the data obtained in the study. Increased BMI in males did not affect systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while increased BMI in females significantly affected systolic and diastolic blood pressure. It was found that all waist circumference values of all male and female affected systolic blood pressure significantly while not affecting diastolic blood pressure. There was a significant correlation between age, waist circumference and BMI values in female (p = 0.0005); There was a significant correlation between waist circumference and age in males (p = 0.0005), and there was no significant relationship between BMI and age. It has been seen that eating habits are different in females and males. Females were more likely to change their eating habits than males (p = 0.046). It was determined that females preferred to consume vegetables (p = 0.0091) and males more to consume starchy foods (p = 0.001) and meat products (p = 0.027).
