Comparison of the effects of mix insulin and intensive insulin therapy on diabetic parameters in Type 2 diabetic patients

Abstract (EN)

Objective:Patients who applied to Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Internal Medicine outpatient clinic and policlinic between 2012 and 2020 were included in the study, and the effects of these treatments were investigated in patients receiving mixed and intensive insulin therapy. Materials and Methods:The files of patients who applied to Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Internal Diseases outpatient clinic and clinic between 2012-2020 were reviewed retrospectively. The Kolmogorov – Smirnov test was used to evaluate the distribution of continuous variables. Wilcoxen test was used to compare pairwise repeated measures in addicted groups. Results: Of the 200 patients included in our study, 123 (61.5%) were male and 77 (38.5%) were female. The median age of the patients was 56.3 in the intensive insulin group, while it was 55.8 in the mixed insulin group. When the target value for HbA1c was <7%, 7 patients (7%) in the patient group receiving intensive insulin therapy and 17 patients (17%) in the patient group receiving mixed insulin therapy had values below the target value, and no significant difference was found between the two groups ( p:0.480). In the last measurement, HbA1c was <7% in 13 patients (13%) in the patient group receiving intensive insulin therapy, while HbA1c was <7% in 15 patients (15%) receiving mixed insulin therapy, and there was no significant difference between the two groups. When the groups were evaluated within themselves, when the initial and final HbA1c values were compared at the end of the 18-month follow-up period, no significant difference was found in the intensive insulin therapy group (10.6±2.38 vs 9.6±2.41) (p>0.05) mixed insulin therapy. No significant difference was found in the group either. (9.1±2.36 vs 9.2±2.14) (p>0.05). Conclusion:Although there are different results regarding superiority over each other in the patient groups receiving mixed and intensive insulin therapy, the choice of treatment should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and the decision should be made by considering the side effect profile such as hypoglycemia.
