Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Introduction and Aim: Childhood traumas with complex causes and tragic consequences; developmental, medical, psycho-social and legally comprehensive is a serious problem. Stress reactions of an individual who has experienced childhood trauma reveal many mental problems, especially cigarette, alcohol and substance use, from childhood to adulthood. The aim of this study is to determine whether the increased risk of alcohol, substance and cigarette use is associated with childhood traumas. Material and Method: This study was carried out on 350 adults between the ages of 18-65, who were followed up in Diyarbakır Bağlar Family Health Center No. 003. Sociodemographic data form and childhood trauma scale were physically applied to the participants. The obtained data were statistically analyzed with the SPSSv23 program. Results: The level of exposure to sexual abuse was found to be higher in smokers compared to non-smokers. When the childhood traumas scale and its sub-dimensions were evaluated according to the frequency of smoking; no statistically significant difference was detected. It was determined that individuals who use alcohol have higher levels of exposure to emotional abuse and sexual abuse than those who do not use alcohol. It was determined that those who drink alcohol more than 3 days a week have a higher level of exposure to physical abuse than those who drink less than 3 days a week. It was determined that individuals who use substance have higher levels of emotional abuse, sexual abuse and childhood trauma than those who do not use substances. Conclusion: When the relationship between the childhood traumas scale and its sub- dimensions is evaluated; It has been determined that childhood traumas have a moderate and advanced positive relationship with all sub-dimensions. It has been determined that the increase in emotional abuse will increase the childhood trauma at the highest level. It has been determined that childhood traumas also cause a statistically significant increase in risk for smoking, alcohol and substance use.
