Sinemaya bir geçit: E. M. Forster?ı uyarlama
Bu çalışma geleneksel İngiliz heritage sinemasında önemli bir yere sahip olan E. M. Forster?ın A Passage to India ve A Room With a View romanlarının uyarlamalarını incelemektedir. Bu uyarlamalar kadın cinselliğini ön plana çıkararak kaynak romanları ve bağdaştırıldıkları İngiliz heritage sinemasının özelliklerini yeniden yorumlamamızı sağlar. Bunun yanı sıra bu uyarlamaların belirli temsili ve anlatımsal özelliklerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır.
Travma Sineması: Beynelmilel ve Babam ve Oğlum'a eleştirel bir bakış
Cinema, one of the most popular instruments of mass media, is also a product of the society and it cannot be thought to be independent from the social history. Beynelmilel (Sırrı Süreyya Önder, 2006) and Babam ve Oğlum (Çağan Irmak, 2005), being popular Turkish films can be put and analyzed under the category of 12 September films and trauma films. The characters in both films bear the features of traumatic personalities produced by the 12 September coup and its aftermath. The two films create a cinematic field to discuss the 12 September trauma and its impacts. Beynelmilel and Babam ve Oğlum should therefore be paid attention and analyzed, as popular products of the society.
Türkiye'deki İslamcı mizah dergilerinin ideolojik söylemi: Misvak örneği
This thesis focuses on the ideological discourse of Misvak, one of the most popular Islamist humor magazines in Turkey in the 2000s. By analyzing the magazine's cartoons, the study first attempts to reveal the general characteristics and the function of humor in Misvak. Then it discusses how Islamism is presented as the primary ideological position in the magazine. In order to uncover absences and silences in the discourse, the purpose of the thesis is also to investigate whether there is discursive parallelism between the magazine and the AKP government or not. Finally, within the context of kulturkampf and hegemony debates, the study aims to show how enemy images are constructed in Misvak by analyzing visual texts. Türkiye'de film dağıtım sektörü: Sinema politikaları bağlamında bir inceleme
This thesis examines Turkey's film distribution sector, which directly affects the demand of the audience. In this context, answers to how and why questions about the functioning of the film distribution market. This thesis, which aims to answer how the sector works through the market structure, reveals why the sector works like this through the analysis of cinema policies. In this context, the thesis aims to reveal the current structural problems of the film distribution market, which can also be seen as a repercussion of various state policies and regulations. This thesis, which claims that cinema policies are shaped according to the interest groups in the cinema industry and that these policies reproduce the structure of the industry, asks the question of how the state-cinema relationship evolved in the context of changing cinema policies in between 2005-2019. The answer to this question is to be sought through the analysis of the film distribution sector. This sector has been analyzed in the framework of the concepts of concentration, ownership, and state intervention. The correct audience preference is examined from the existent market structure. Because demand regulation mechanisms operated by film distributors shape the audience demand. In other words, the main extension of the power relations established by the distribution process in a capitalist social formation can be found in the demand regulation mechanism where the motion pictures can be circulated or prevented.
1960'lı ve 1970'li yıllarda sol eğilimli entelektüellerin yazdığı halk anlatılarının uyarlamalarının metinlerarası incelemesi
This thesis analyses adaptations of folk narratives written by left-oriented intellectuals in the 1960s and 1970s in an intertextual context. By analyzing 16 adaptations of folk romances and stories, the study tries to reveal ideological and political transformations, changes and additions in literary characteristics of narratives in terms of content and form. Then it discusses how folk materials were reinterpreted from the leftist perspective by examining dominant conflict of narratives, depictions of popular folk characters, their helpers and opponents, conceptualization of love between heroes and heroines and utterances of characters by associating them with contextual factors. Within this frame this thesis tries to reveal what kind of meaning these adaptations created and how it differs from the preceded versions of folk narratives.

Hip-hop has become one of the omnipresent and popular form of cultures in the present-day, which spreads across the world and the most known elements of this culture has always been rap music. This music becomes a way of expression to raise a voice against the social problems throughout its history. This study examines how the resistance in Turkish rap music has transformed within the grip of popular culture. In this context, the formation of Turkish rap music will be discussed and analyzed through the analysis of in-depth interviews. Before the analysis of the interviews, this thesis firstly attempts to focus on the history of hip-hop culture and rap music along with the link between the resistance and rap music. Then, it aims to discuss journey of rap music from Germany to Turkey. Finally, the study aims to reveal the different aspects of resistance in Turkish rap music by referring to the individual and social components of this music. This thesis also argues that resistance in Turkish rap music is ambiguous in terms of how it expresses itself.
Sınırların ötesinde bedenler: Filipinli bakıcıların Türkiye'deki deneyimleri
Hiring migrant Filipina nannies has become a trend among upper-class employers in Turkey within the last decade. This thesis explores the experiences and working conditions of migrant Filipina nannies while working for Turkish employers. The main goal of this research is to discover tactics and coping mechanisms of Filipina nannies and also the strategies that Turkish employers use in setting the boundaries in the household. The physical, psychological and social wellbeing of the nannies are also investigated. The study relies on qualitative methods particularly in-depth interviews with Filipina nannies and Turkish employers. The results point out that the employers have certain attitudes towards nannies and expectations from them which create psychological and physical difficulties for the nannies. The thesis also focuses on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the dynamics of the employment relationship, working conditions and the overall experiences of the Filipina domestic workers in Turkey.
Türkiye'de e-spor ve oyun evleri: Emek, cinsiyet ve etkilenim
E-sports is a global industry based on professional and competitive playing of videogames, where revenues reach 1 billion dollars. The field of e-sports blends sports, technology and gameplay within a masculine, heteronormative, and entrepreneurial context. E-sports players work, play and live within gaming houses. Based on ethnographic research in gaming houses, e-sports events, and semi-structured interviews with players, families, and fans, this thesis aims to understand how professional e-sports players "playbor" within the context of post-industrialism where the path to a "good life" comes through not hard work but passionate play. This thesis reveals the ways in which neoliberal fantasies of love have permeated e-sports. Furthermore, it shows how heteronormative gender structures already inherent in videogames and physical sports get to be reproduced themselves within e-sports. Through an interdisciplinary framework between digital game studies, media studies, and digital labor studies, this thesis ultimately demonstrates the tensions and contradictions of how contemporary youth negotiates the promises of digital play with the realities of contemporary market economy within the context of the Global South.
